Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 300g 5% fat beef mince
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 20ml dark soy sauce
  • 15ml sriracha
  • 10g tomato puree
  • 20g honey
  • 250g cooked rice

Optional Toppings

  • Sliced spring onion
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Chop the onion and bell pepper finely. Mince the garlic cloves. Ensure the rice is cooked and set aside to keep warm.
  2. Cook the Beef: Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef mince and cook, stirring frequently, until browned and crispy. Break up clumps to ensure even cooking.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the vegetables soften and become fragrant.
  4. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together dark soy sauce, sriracha, tomato puree, and honey. Pour this sauce over the beef and vegetables in the skillet, stirring to coat everything evenly. Cook for another 2–3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Combine with Rice: Add the cooked rice to the skillet and toss thoroughly to combine it with the beef mixture. Continue cooking for 1–2 minutes until the rice is heated through and absorbs some sauce.
  6. Serve and Garnish: Plate the crispy chilli beef rice and garnish with sliced spring onion and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added crunch and flavor. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sriracha quantity depending on your desired level of spiciness.
  • Using lean beef mince keeps this dish lower in fat and calories.
  • For added crunch, you can stir-fry some cashew nuts or peanuts as a topping.
  • Leftover rice is ideal for this recipe; if using freshly cooked rice, let it cool slightly to prevent clumping.
